The cultures of Flanders and the Basque region collaborate in a cultural exchange initiative spanning both territories, sharing artistic works and practices from different disciplines including performing arts, music, plastic and visual arts and literature.
This two-way project serves a dual purpose. The first aim is to bring together people working in the field of culture, fostering mutual experimentation and learning. The second goal is to jointly formulate tangible cultural initiatives that showcase the high quality and innovative creative essence of both regions.
Focused on culture, contemporary creation and language, this cultural connection between Flanders and the Basque Country offers a wide range of activities in several disciplines. It will also promote partnerships between cultural players and the network of artists, creators and cultural industries through a rich programme featuring more than a dozen projects in various fields.
Vlaanderen - Baskenland is the result of a two-year relationship. In 2021 and 2022, organized working visits were conducted in Euskadi and Flanders, providing opportunities to explore the cultural and creative ecosystems of both the Flemish and Basque regions. With support from the Office of the Basque President, the Flemish Chancellery and Department of Culture and the Flanders Arts Institute, connections have been created partnerships between the different stakeholders. After meetings between members of the Flemish and Basque cultural sectors, the outcomes of the programme will take shape in 2023 and 2024.
