Basque. Playlist. #11 – Divorce From New York

12 Jan 2024

Known for his contributions as half of the San Sebastian-based production duo Reykjavik606, Alvaro Granda Ferrer, aka Divorce From New York, weaves a vibrant tapestry of broken beats, uplifting sonics and syncopated rhythms, fusing jungle, house and bruk (broken beat) with jazz sensibilities. His last two albums took the UK scene by storm (‘This Ain´t Jazz No More´, 2021 and ´Sausalito´, 2022) both of which were played on the Gilles Peterson show and BBC Radio 6. ´Sausalito´ was named one of the year’s best albums by the influential UK music magazine The Line of Best Fit.

Divorce From New York´s music moves between the LA beats, jazzy London broken beats and house music where jazz is the connecting link. Through sampling, he constructs his music like a puzzle. Granda will soon release his third album, "Brick Lane".
